First 25 world records for barebow archers officially recognised

The first 25 world records for barebow archers were made official on 1 April 2020, following the introduction of the bowstyle into the record books earlier this year.

It was planned to accept initial claims for indoor records on 1 April and outdoor records on 1 June. However, due to the current COVID-19 crisis and the resulting suspension of all world events, all indoor and outdoor records claimed until 31 March have been approved at the first milestone.

A total of 54 valid record claims were made.

Scores recorded by 16 archers from Croatia, Denmark, Finland, Great Britain, Italy, Latvia, New Zealand, Slovenia, Sweden and the USA have been accepted.

All nine confirmed outdoor records were shot at one event in New Zealand.

The world records for the barebow men’s and barebow women’s 60-arrow 18-metre ranking round stand at 566 and 543 points, shot by Theis Thormond Hjort and Claire Xie, respectively.

Twenty-one barebow world records remain unclaimed, including all 12 team records. (These must be shot at an international event.)

All records are now available to claim as normal as soon as international competition resumes. The current hiatus, implemented by World Archery due to the worldwide health crisis caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, is in place until the end of June 2020.
