Athlete of the Week: Erika ANSCHUTZ (USA) Lausanne – 26 September 2011  The 22-year old American Erika ANSCHUTZ has just clinched the World Cup title in Istanbul. At the same time she won the Longines Prize for Precision awarded to the archer who shot the highest number of 10s during the World Cup season. At such a young age, ANSCHUTZ has already won 19 world championships medals taking all age categories and archery disciplines together.   ANSCHUTZ first picked up a bow at the age of six, and was competing in archery tournaments by the time she was seven in 1996. She began shooting professionally in 2006. She won her first world championships medal at age 13, clinching the cadet world title in 2002. The American has distinguished herself by winning a total of 19 world championships medals so far (including indoor, outdoor, university, individual, team and mixed events) from cadet, through junior and senior: seven gold, four silver, and eight bronze. Her last gold medal came with the US team at the Turin 2011 World Championships, where she also won the individual bronze.   Since she started competing on the World Cup circuit in 2009, ANSCHUTZ has clinched 11 stages podiums altogether, as well as a bronze medal at the 2010 Final and the 2011 title last weekend. In addition, she has also established more than 160 national records and above 20 world records in indoor and outdoor competitions from cadet to senior.   ANSCHUTZ graduated from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in August 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Currently, she is studying towards a Master of Arts degree in Forensic Psychology at the University of North Dakota. She is also the Chairwoman for the USA Archery Athlete’s Advisory Council and the Compound Bow Athlete Representative on the USA Archery Board of Directors.   Besides archery, ANSCHUTZ enjoys working out, listening to music, playing card games, and spending time with her family and friends.
