Passing of German Archery Federation's President


Mr AMBACHER served as President of the German Shooting Sport and Archery Federation (DSB – Deutscher Schuetzenbund) for more than 18 years. He was also involved in the ISSF (International Shooting Sport Federation) Administrative Council and Executive Committee for 16 years as well as in several other major national sports bodies.
  In recognition of his outstanding efforts, Mr AMBACHER received several national and international awards, including the German Federal Cross of Merit, First Class.   "World Archery was very saddened to hear the news of the passing away of Josef AMBACHER", stated the World Archery Secretary General Tom DIELEN. "I had the pleasure of meeting President AMBACHER on several occasions and he was a person who always had a fantastic sense of humour."   "At the same time he was more than 100% committed to sport and shooting and archery in particular. Under his leadership one of the most successful ever World Archery Championships was held in Leipzig in 2007. Last year he led the German federation through its 150th Birthday and he was planning to retire later this year. We send our sincere condolences to his family, the entire Board and Staff of the DSB and his friends in sport in Germany."   Mr Josef AMBACHER's funeral will be held on Thursday, 13 September 2012 at 14:00 in the St. Maria Church, Kirchplatz 1, 82319 Starnberg, Germany.   Ø Obituary     World Archery sends its sincere condolences to his wife, his daughter, his family and the German Archery Federation.
