Erika JONES and Reo WILDE: queen and king of the World Games

Erika JONES has won her first major individual title of the year after placing second at both the Shanghai and Medellin World Cups. She won the World Games final with a two-point margin over Camilla SOEMOD (DEN). The Danish archer, a former world N°1, achieves her first individual podium in a major event since her second place at the World Cup Final in 2009.
JONES, whose last major victory was at the 2011 World Cup Final, could not have hoped for a better result at her first World Games: in qualifications she established a new world record for the compound round (2x36 arrows at 50 metres) at 704 points, and this morning, she won the mixed team gold medal coupled with Reo WILDE.
The individual victory makes the American archer the new N°1 of the world ranking, ahead of double world champion Albina LOGINOVA (RUS).
First at the Antalya World Cup and third in Medellin, Sara LOPEZ (photo) added the World Games bronze medal to her fast-growing collection . Against former world N°1 Ivana BUDEN (CRO), the 18-year-old Colombian archer scored thirteen 10s and only two 9s for a victory 148-143.
On the men’s side, Reo WILDE proved that he is on top of the compound division once again. The American archer, who has won almost every title, the last of which was the Medellin World Cup, is on track to recover the N°1 spot in the world rankings, which he lost earlier this year. This morning he won the mixed team gold medal with JONES; this afternoon, he won the individual final against the French athlete Pierre-Julien DELOCHE. WILDE was very lucky with the lines, and had only one arrow out of the 10-ring for the victory, 149-147.
For DELOCHE (photo), the silver medal concludes a successful trip to Colombia: he was victorious in the team event at the Medellin World Cup, and today achieves his first major individual podium finish of the outdoor season.
The bronze medal match was a high-level fight between Roberto HERNANDEZ (ESA) and Paul TITSCHER (GER), who was fifth at the last World Cup Final. The winner was going to be the man who suffered the less 9s. In the end it was Roberto HERNANDEZ who dropped two points in the first end, but went on to shoot perfectly in the second, third and fourth ends. The 24-year-old Salvadorian archer outscored his opponent 147-146 for the bronze medal – the first major individual podium of his career.
