World Archery Netherlands promotes archery at Cruyff Foundation Open Day
Wednesday 10 September was the 14th Open Day of the Cruyff Foundation in the Olympic Stadium of Amsterdam. The Archery Association of the Netherlands together with volunteers of the para archery national team were present to help and promote archery as a sport for all.
The kids could shoot with recurve or compound bows at hit/miss targets and arrows with a rubber balloon as arrowhead, material specially designed for such events. Expressions and emotions on their faces when they were able to hit the target proved what sport can bring.
The Johan Cruyff Foundation encourages children to participate in sports. Not only disabled children but also children living in disadvantaged parts of the city and whose parents cannot send them to a sports club.
The Open Day is the event of the year for the Johan Cruyff Foundation. A large number of projects and organisations for disabled children are given the opportunity to present their sports.
This day is mostly about awareness and integration, during which children with or without disabilities are given the opportunity to play sport and play together.
