Archery for all: Rio 2016 spectator ticket prices to start at around 20 dollars
Tickets to watch the archery events at the next Olympics will be priced at as little as 20 USD for the elimination rounds. The cheapest tickets for the finals will cost just double that, as Rio 2016 bids to set prices that ensure the Games are open to everyone.
The best seats in the Sambodromo for archery’s medal matches are expected to cost around 70 USD.
More than half of the 7.5 million tickets available across the 28-sport schedule will be priced at 30 USD or below, say organisers. The full ticketing programme, outlining which sport sessions are open to spectators, will be released this November.
Fans in Brazil will register for the first of two ticket draws in March 2015, while non-Brazilian residents apply to buy tickets in their own countries during the first half of next year. The final, worldwide first-come-first-serve online sales period will launch in January 2016, the year of the Games.
Archery in Lord’s Cricket Ground at London 2012 was a sell-out and a success.
More than 10,000 people watched archery live, every single day – and the venue recorded one of the highest spectator satisfaction scores of the whole Games.
Rio 2016 will put archery into the Sambodromo, the arena purpose-built for the city’s famous carnival parade. It will first host archery later this autumn when the Brazilian national championships test the sport’s next Olympic venue.
