India’s reserve squad looks strong as outdoor competition opens this week in Taoyuan. Recurve man Parth Sushant Salunkhe (662), and compounders Pragati (691) and Priyansh (696) took three of the four top seeds in challenging conditions at the opening leg of the Asia Cup.

Only the host nation’s Li Tsai-Chi, an 18-year-old shooting in her second event on Chinese Taipei’s senior squad, stopped the sweep. She led teammate Lin Chia Yu over recurve women’s qualifying, 640 to 633 points.

“The wind was strong and predictable at the venue today,” said Li. “But what I’m most satisfied with is being able to break through my own mindset and take steps towards executing the moves I wanted to make.”

“It was a refusal to compromise to the wind that led to my ranking in today’s competition.”

The biggest name on the shooting line for today’s 72-arrow rounds belonged to Australian Olympian Ryan Tyack. The current recurve men’s world number 26 scored 655 points, good for tied second with Ilfat Abdullin of Kazakhstan.

Competition in Taoyuan continues with mixed team and individual eliminations on Friday.
