Preview: Becerra, Ellison and Fullerton headline debut Indoor Series stop in Rio
The Indoor World Series rolls on to new territory this weekend as Rio de Janeiro hosts its first-ever stage of the circuit.
The Taipei Open wrapped up just hours ago, but the tour already moves to its fourth stop – with three more to come after Brazil in the debut season of elite indoor archery’s new-look format.
A total of 179 competitors from 11 countries will shoot across 10 disciplines, covering the full slate of senior and under-21 recurve and compound events, plus both men’s and women’s barebow.
Fresh from his victory in Chinese Taipei, world number three Mike Schloesser is in the compound men’s lineup as he looks to reclaim the top spot in the rankings from Mathias Fullerton, who is also competing. Gwangju 2025 World Archery Champion Nicolas Girard sits second in the Sanlida World Ranking but does not make the trip to Brazil.
In compound women, Andrea Becerra makes her first Indoor World Series appearance of the year after securing silver at the Pan American Indoor Championships last week in Mexico. The stage also welcomes back the great Brady Ellison, who makes his indoor season debut in recurve men – his first World Series outing and first World Archery appearance since winning the Nanjing 2025 Hyundai Archery World Cup Final.
Becerra, Ellison, Fullerton – all number ones in their respective categories, all on the start list.
At the midway point of the 2025/26 Indoor World Series, this fourth stage promises to offer more clues – and more points – as to who might be swirling around the medals come the season-closer in Vegas.
