Anaëlle Florent headlines France compound squad after recurve switch
France has selected 11 compound archers for the first international events of the 2026 outdoor season, including recent recurve convert Anaëlle Florent, following trials in Compiègne last weekend.
Six athletes will represent the country at the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Shanghai and the European Championships in Antalya in May.
The selected archers include reigning World Archery Champion Nicolas Girard alongside François Dubois and Jean-Philippe Boulch on the men’s side, while Florent, Léa Girault and Sophie Dodémont form the women’s team.
Florent only switched to compound in September 2025 after previously competing in recurve. She enjoyed the feeling of shooting the bow when trying it earlier in her career and decided to pursue the discipline when the opportunity arose to launch a compound project.
“I’m really happy to have progressed enough over the past six months to qualify for these events,” the 24-year-old said. “I’m looking forward to continuing the work and testing myself at the international level.”
Girard, Dubois, Florent and Girault will also travel to Puebla, Mexico, for the first stage of the 2026 Hyundai Archery World Cup in early April.
Five additional athletes – Alyssia Chambraud, Clémence Fraigneau, Ambre Puiseux, Kyla Touraine-Helias and Victor Bouleau – were also named for the European Grand Prix in Antalya in April, as France builds its compound programme towards upcoming major events and LA28 where compound archery will make its Olympic debut.
The selections come shortly after the French compound squad held a training camp at the World Archery Excellence Centre in Lausanne, where athletes spent four days working on technical preparation, equipment tuning and match simulations under national coach Sébastien Brasseur.
Trials for France’s recurve team are taking place this week, from 17-20 March, while the para squad will be selected on 28 March.
