Valencia, Becerra lead Mexico squad for home World Cup opener in Puebla
Mexico has named its recurve and compound teams for the first stage of the 2026 Hyundai Archery World Cup, set to take place in Puebla in early April.
The top four athletes in each category from the national selection process were named to the squad for the season opener on home soil.
Mexico retains a strong core in recurve women’s led by Olympic medallists Alejandra Valencia, Angela Ruiz and Ana Vazquez, who are joined by newcomer Rebeca Marquez.
On the men’s side, Matias Grande has now clearly established himself as one of the country’s leading recurve archers, finishing first ahead of Francisco Padilla, Juan Pablo Téllez Aguirre and Raul Tadeo Rodríguez López.
In compound, world number one Andrea Becerra topped the women’s standings, with Dafne Quintero, Adriana Castillo and Ana Sofía Hernández also securing selection.
Sebastian Garcia led the men’s rankings, having recently recorded a 719 – just one point shy of a perfect 720 – during phase three of the national trials earlier this month, followed by Rodrigo Gonzalez, Lot Máximo Méndez Ortiz and Juan Del Rio.
The squad features a strong core of established internationals, including Valencia and compound standouts Becerra and Quintero, alongside emerging names such as Marquez, who breaks into the recurve women’s top four.
The selections were based on results across multiple phases of the national trials, culminating in the final selection event held on 15-18 March in Mexico City, where the rankings were confirmed.
The opening stage of the 2026 Hyundai Archery World Cup will be held on home soil in Puebla and marks the first major outdoor international event of the season.
