Batuev and Yeo lead recurve, India dominates compound qualifying in Bangkok

Asia cup 2026

Kirill Batuev topped recurve men’s qualification at the opening stage of the 2026 Asia Cup in Bangkok with 667.

Representing individual neutral athletes (AIN), the 21-year-old delivered a standout performance despite limited international experience, having previously competed at the 2021 World Archery Youth Championships in Wroclaw. He advances to the elimination rounds as top seed and will face China’s Gu Shen in the 1/8 eliminations.

China’s Yang Jiabing finished second with 664, while India’s Devaang Gupta placed third on 663.

The recurve women’s field was led by Singapore’s Tabitha Ern Lin Yeo, who shot 653 to secure top position. The 17-year-old, currently ranked 220 in the world, continues her steady rise on the continental circuit after competing at multiple Asia Cup stages last season.

India’s Ruma Biswas placed second with 650, followed by Malaysia’s Ku Nurin Afiqah Ku Ruzaini on 647.

India dominated compound men’s qualifying, with Rajat Chauhan leading the field on 712. A multiple Hyundai Archery World Cup medallist, Chauhan set the benchmark in a strong Indian showing.

Teammate Rishabh Yadav followed in second with 708, while Uday Kamboj (706) and Prathamesh Samadhan Jawkar (703) ensured four Indian archers finished inside the top four.

In the compound women’s event, Arina Cherkezova led the standings with 705. The 2019 World Archery Youth Championships under-18 gold medallist delivered a composed performance to take the top seed.

Fellow AIN archer Soyzhina Soktoeva second with 703, tied on 703 with Malaysia’s Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh, who placed third.

Conditions in Bangkok have been typically warm, with light winds providing stable shooting.

Competition continues on Wednesday with team eliminations, followed by mixed team events on Thursday.

Finals will take place on Friday and will be streamed on archery+.
