Canada names recurve squad for Puebla 2026 season opener
Archery Canada has selected its recurve team following national trials to compete at the opening stage of the 2026 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Puebla, Mexico.
The squad features Brian Maxwell, Virginie Chénier and 19-year-old Janna Hawash, who will lead the country’s campaign at the first international outdoor event of the season.
Hawash, one of the emerging talents in the Canadian programme, has already gained international experience at youth level and continues her transition to the senior circuit after competing at the Gwangju 2025 Hyundai World Archery Championships in September, marking Puebla as an important early benchmark in her development.
Maxwell brings experience to the lineup as a member of Canada’s bronze medal-winning team at the Lac La Biche 2024 World Archery Field Championships, alongside appearances at World Cup stages and world championships.
Chénier, a Paris 2024 Olympian, adds further depth with a long-standing presence on the international circuit and experience at major multisport events.
The selections follow domestic qualification process, with athletes earning their places through national trials ahead of the new outdoor season.
The team will be guided by national coach Junior Bolaños Sierra, who joined the programme as part of Canada’s renewed focus on Olympic performance, alongside Linda Price.
Following the World Cup stage in Puebla, several Canadian athletes are also expected to compete at the San Salvador 2026 Grand Prix of the Americas, continuing their early-season international exposure.
The Puebla stage, scheduled for early April, marks the start of the 2026 Hyundai Archery World Cup circuit and the first major test of the year for national teams.
