Belgium's Ruben Vanhollebeke set two para archery world records on 9 May 2026 at a national tournament in Minderhout, Belgium.

Vanhollebeke scored 511 points over the 30-metre round (72 arrows) and 1014 points over the double 30-metre round (144 arrows), both marks in the VI1 division for archers with visual impairment.

Both records are pending ratification.

The performances came shortly after Vanhollebeke won bronze at the European Para Archery Championships in Rome.

“Winning the bronze medal at the European Championships in Rome was wonderful, but these world records feel like a true victory over myself,” he said. “It is the confirmation of an intense journey.”

Vanhollebeke said the records marked his return from a difficult period and credited professional support for helping him regain confidence and form.

“After a deep mental slump and thanks to professional guidance, I am back,” he added. “I am grateful that I have found myself again; this struggle has only made me more resilient.”

I could never have done this without my rock, my wife Kathleen Meurrens, and the keen eye of my coach Paul Remaut.”

He also thanked his sponsors, family and friends for their support throughout his journey.

“This record is not the end station, but a new beginning,” said Vanhollebeke. “The fire and desire for the bow and the competition burn brighter than ever.”
