Jevsnik, Paas secure compound top seeds at Veronica’s Cup 2026
Slovenia’s Tim Jevsnik and Estonia’s Meeri-Marita Paas secured the top compound seeds after qualification at the 2026 Veronica’s Cup in Kamnik after strong performances.
The compound men’s qualification produced one of the closest contests of the tournament, with Jevsnik and India’s Priyansh tied on 709. With all standard tie-break criteria exhausted, Jevsnik was awarded the top seed after a coin toss.
The 22-year-old world number 10 arrived in Slovenia in strong form after winning bronze at the Puebla 2026 Hyundai Archery World Cup earlier this season. He also topped qualification at last year’s Veronica’s Cup before eventually taking bronze and will now look to go one step further on home soil.
Austria’s Nico Wiener, the Yankton 2021 Hyundai World Archery Championships gold medallist and current world number five, finished third with 708.
In the compound women’s event, Paas topped the field with 706. The defending Veronica’s Cup champion, currently ranked 10th in the world, will now look to retain her title in Kamnik, a week after claiming team gold at the European Outdoor Championships.
Croatia’s Amanda Mlinaric, the highest-ranked archer in the field at world number nine, secured second place with 702, while Italy’s Elisa Roner finished third on 694.
Kazakhstan’s Ilfat Abdullin led the recurve men’s qualification with 669. The two-time Olympian finished ahead of Great Britain’s Alex Sillitoe Price on 663 and Moldova’s Dan Olaru on 662.
In recurve women, Czechia’s Marie Horackova secured the top seed with 673 after consistent shooting across both halves. Great Britain’s Megan Havers placed second with 658, while Austria’s Elisabeth Straka finished third on 652.
Horackova will be looking to carry that momentum into the eliminations after missing out on a medal at the recent Europeans despite entering eliminations as the top seed.
The tournament also saw a new world record (pending ratification) as Slovakia’s Jozef Bosansky and Petra Kocutova combined for 1372 in compound 50+ mixed team qualification, surpassing their own mark of 1353.
The pair had set the previous record at the continental championships just days earlier, making this their second world record together this season.
Competition continues on Friday with the elimination rounds.
Finals will take place on Sunday and will be livestreamed on Archery+.
