Former Sri Lanka federation president Commander H.U. Silva dies aged 73
Commander H.U. Silva, a pioneering figure in the development of archery in Sri Lanka and former president of the national federation, died on 30 May, aged 73.
Commander Silva played a central role in the formation and growth of the Sri Lanka Archery Association, serving as president of the federation from 2019 to 2022. He also held the positions of honorary secretary general, honorary vice president and honorary president.
Beyond archery, Silva was a respected sports administrator who served as secretary general of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka from 1997 to 2009 and held the same position with the Commonwealth Games Association of Sri Lanka.
Through these roles, he contributed significantly to the advancement of sport and the Olympic movement in the country.
Known for his commitment, leadership and passion for sport, Silva helped establish the foundations of modern archery in Sri Lanka and inspired generations of athletes, coaches and administrators.
