Michele Frangilli breaks recurve 50+ qualification world record with 680

Frangilli

Italian archer Michele Frangilli has broken the recurve 50+ men’s qualification world record with a score of 680 for the 72-arrow 60-metre round.

The score was shot at the 2026 Freccia d’Argento tournament hosted by Arcieri Voghera in Voghera, Italy, on Sunday 28 June. It surpassed the previous record of 678, set by fellow Italian Alvise Bertolini in 2011, by two points.

The mark, which is also a European record, remains subject to ratification.

Frangilli shot halves of 339 and 341 in temperatures of 39°C, despite having undertaken only limited training due to his coaching commitments with the Italian archery federation.

Frangilli, who turned 50 less than two months earlier, joked afterwards that “he shot too many eights and will do better next time” and said he intends to raise the mark even further soon.

One of the most decorated European archers of all time, three-time Olympian Frangilli’s achievements include an individual World Archery Championships title (2023), a World Archery Indoor Championships title (2001), three World Archery Field Championships titles (2000, 2002 and 2006), and Olympic team gold at London 2012.
