Goktug Ergin helps coaches strengthen clean sport knowledge

Nearly 100 participants from around the world joined a clean sport education webinar hosted by World Archery and the International Testing Agency (ITA) on 18 June, reinforcing the federation’s ongoing commitment to promoting integrity and anti-doping education across the archery community.

The webinar featured World Archery coaches committee chair Goktug Ergin alongside ITA education officer Riley McGown and was designed specifically for coaches and member associations. Together, they shared practical guidance on the anti-doping system, the responsibilities of athlete support personnel and the important role coaches play in fostering a culture of clean sport.

The live session attracted 95 participants, with coaches making up more than half of the audience, joined by administrators, athletes, educators, medical personnel and other athlete support personnel from countries across all continents.

Türkiye recorded the highest participation, followed by Côte d’Ivoire, Yemen, Sweden and Senegal, highlighting the global reach of the initiative.

Bhutan head coach Park Youngsook – also known in archery as Sally – is a Los Angeles 1984 Olympian and said the webinar highlighted the importance of turning knowledge into action.

“I learned how to report a doping violation using the different reporting channels available,” said Park. “The webinar also reminded me that learning about anti-doping is only the first step.”

“As coaches, we need to talk with athletes, explain the rules clearly and help them understand how to apply them in practice.”

The interactive session also included a live question-and-answer segment, while participants received educational resources covering topics including anti-doping rules, therapeutic use exemptions, medication checks, supplement risks and athletes’ rights and responsibilities.

The webinar formed part of World Archery’s ongoing collaboration with the International Testing Agency to strengthen anti-doping education and promote clean sport throughout the international archery community.
