Clean Sport: Mariana Bernal accepts three-year sanction for anti-doping rule violation

Mariana Bernal (Mexico) has accepted the consequences of an anti-doping violation under World Archery’s clean sport rules, which include a three-year period of ineligibility.

The athlete tested positive for the prohibited substance nandrolone following an out-of-competition doping control conducted by the International Testing Agency on 29 September 2025. Nandrolone is prohibited at all times under the WADA Prohibited List as S1.1 Anabolic Androgenic Steroids.

Bernal did not challenge her anti-doping rule violation and, due to early admission, received a one-year reduction in the period of ineligibility under article 10.8.1 of the World Archery Anti-Doping Rules.

The sanctions imposed are as follows:

  • A three-year period of ineligibility from 22 December 2025 to 21 December 2028.
  • Disqualification of the athlete’s individual competitive results from the date of sample collection (29 September 2025) until the start of the provisional suspension (22 December 2025), which includes the 2025 Hyundai Archery World Cup Final.

The decision may be challenged at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Any update to international competition results will be communicated separately.
