Australia’s Gold Coast to host 2027 World Archery Para Championships

The 2027 World Archery Para Championships will be held at the Gold Coast Performance Centre, south of Brisbane, in Queensland (Australia) from 30 August to 6 September 2027.

Previously awarded to Canberra, the championships will move to the Gold Coast following a successful bid by Archery Australia and the Queensland Government.

Around 300 athletes from 50 countries will compete across recurve, compound, W1, and visually impaired events. The event is expected to form an important part of the qualification pathway towards the LA28 Paralympic Games.

The championships mark Australia’s first major international para archery event, and act as an important milestone as Brisbane prepares to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032.

World Archery President Greg Easton welcomed the new host city.

“We are excited to be bringing the World Archery Para Championships to the Gold Coast. Queensland has the experience and ambition to deliver an outstanding event, showcase our sport to new audiences, and build momentum towards LA28 and Brisbane 2032.”

Archery Australia CEO Peter Bromley called the announcement a major milestone.

“We look forward to welcoming the global para archery community to the Gold Coast and delivering a championship that celebrates sporting excellence, inclusion, and the Paralympic spirit.”

Tourism and Acting Sport Minister Andrew Powell said the World Archery Para Championships would put Queensland in the international spotlight.

“Securing this event is another example of how the momentum towards Brisbane 2032 is helping Queensland attract prestigious global championships that may otherwise never have come to Australia.”

“Fans will have the opportunity to witness the world's leading para archers competing for world titles and crucial Paralympic qualification places, creating an unforgettable sporting spectacle on the Gold Coast.”

Para archery has been part of every Paralympic Games since Rome 1960 and traces its origins to the Stoke Mandeville Games, the precursor to the modern Paralympic Movement.
