Olympic archer Juan Rene Serrano signs Olympian Wall in Lausanne

Mexican Olympian Juan Rene Serrano signed the Olympian Wall at Olympic House in Lausanne.

Mexican archer Juan Rene Serrano recently signed the Olympian Wall at Olympic House, the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland.

“I have been involved in this sport for more than 27 years, and this is my first time in Lausanne,” Serrano said. “I have seen so many Olympians come to Olympic House to sign the wall, and leaving my name among all of them is truly amazing.”

“Being here in person to receive my certificate, enjoy Olympic House, and meet the people who support us on our journey to the Olympic Games is special,” added the 42-year-old.

Serrano represented Mexico at three Olympic Games – Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012. His best individual result came in Beijing, where he finished fourth, narrowly missing out on an Olympic medal. He also finished fourth in the recurve men’s team event in London.

His international career included team gold at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games and team silver at the Guadalajara 2011 Pan American Games. Other highlights included silver in the recurve men’s individual event at the 2007 Archery World Cup Final in Dubai. He also won 13 World Cup stage medals and two world championship medals – mixed team silver at the Turin 2011 World Archery Championships and recurve men’s team bronze at the Rzeszow 2009 World Archery Indoor Championships.

Serrano was not the only Mexican Olympian to sign the wall this year. On 29 May, fellow Olympians Alejandra Valencia, Ana Paula Vazquez and Angela Ruiz also left their mark during a visit to Olympic House.

The Olympian Wall is a living record of Olympic history, featuring the signatures of thousands of Olympians from different generations, editions of the Olympic Games and regions of the world. Visiting Olympians are invited to add their names during a small ceremony at Olympic House, creating a lasting reminder of their journey to and beyond the Games.
