Nichols takes gold in Pan Am Games

Jennifer Nichols (USA) confirmed that she is the best lady archer in the Americas as she won the gold medal in the individual competition of the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro. The medals of the day were presented by Mr Paul Paulsen, FITA First Vice President, who is FITA representative at this event.   Nichols, who had also been the Champion four years ago in Santo Domingo, shot a perfect last end of 30 points to overcome a 2-point deficit versus Mexico’s Aida Roman. The Mexican could not stand the pressure and shot a six with her last arrow to finally lose 103-107.   In the bronze medal match, Colombia’s Ana Maria Rendon defeated her team-mate Natalia Sanchez 108-105 to win the first medal her country has ever won in archery in Pan American Games.   Nichols has shown very consistent form, winning the FITA round (1335) and beating all her opponents in the Olympic round matches by at least four points.     The previous Pan American Games record for the twelve- arrow match (110) was broken by Jennifer today with a score of 111 points in her 1/16 and 1/8 matches.   Four other archers equalled the record score set by Denise Parker in 1995: Scavotto (USA), Sarduy and Pagan (CUB), and Sanchez (COL).   Ø      Results Ø      Photos   Sergio Font FITA Communication
