World Archery Championships – Quotes of the Recurve Men Qualifications

Today in Ulsan (KOR) was the Recurve Men qualifications at the 2009 World Archery Championships. Read some quotes from the competitors.
Recurve Men   OH Jin-Hyek (KOR) How was today’s play? This morning the weather was cloudy and a bit windy, so I worried about it. However, the result was enough because our team was well-prepared. Now we are very happy with the way the day ended. The whole team made quite an achievement. Personally I am 100% satisfied.
How do you feel breaking these two world records? Of course, I am excited! But we have the individual and team match coming up. Therefore, we will focus on also doing our best in the matches.
IM Dong-Hyun (KOR) How was today’s play? I’m very pleased to have the new team world record at these World Championships. I think we can do our best during the rest of this event with good conditions. If we say one hundred is a perfect percentage, I’d like to mention 90% today. I am not satisfied with the remaining 10%.
How do you feel breaking the team world record for the second time? Indeed, I was part of the team in 2003 when we established the previous record. Then we tied it in Leipzig. Today, I’m satisfied about the new record! I’m even looking forward to seeing higher records in the future in Korea. In case of team matches, we had made new records in the last competition. We did it again today, so I am very happy and we want to continue to shoot good scores.
LEE Chang- Hwan (KOR) How do you feel breaking the world record? I’m very satisfied because it’s not only about me, but the whole team. In Leipzig two years ago, we actually tied the world record. Today’s record is much better than the previous one. I hope that this record stands for a long time. Also, if the record is broken again, I want to belong to that team.
You are always close to the top, but you have never won an individual medal at a major event. Is this your turn? I have failed in individual matches, so I want to do well this time. My condition was actually not so good recently, but it’s getting better. I think that I will be in good shape in the coming days.

Romain GIROUILLE (FRA) – 3rd with 1365 points, EMAU Record EMAU ! It was a long and hard day. I was happy with my performance. At 90m, I hit the yellow a lot and a few 7s. At 70m, I grouped very well. During day, I stayed wit opened to what my coach was saying and it worked out very well.
Jean-Charles VALLADONT (FRA) I was eager to shoot today. From the beginning it went very well and I tied the French record at 90m. It’s good to finish at 6th place in individual, it means something. We also came 2nd by team. We will do something good during the matches.
Crispin DUENAS (CAN) How was your shooting today? I feel good and happy to be in this competition. However, today everything was good except one shot that I didn’t expect. Korea has many excellent archers and today I could see that up close.
How are you feeling about these championships in Ulsan, Korea? I love this place because everyone is kind. Also, I am very excited to compete!
What is your goal in the championship? I am averaging almost top 16, so I want to display the same kind of game here. I feel good.
Brady ELLISON (USA) How was your today shooting? I was shooting about my usual average. Everything was good so far, nothing special. Today’s weather was almost perfect to me. I want to say today was one of the best weather conditions for shooting.
How are you feeling about shooting in Ulsan, Korea? Korean people are so lovely. It’s good news that Korean athletes break records in front of their home crowd. Additionally Ulsan gave us a nice welcome.
What is your goal in the championship? Every archer wants to be a winner at the world championships, to get a gold medal. It’s the same to me, but I prefer to shoot well as I have always done. I’ll do my best to shoot my best.
Simon TERRY (GBR) I did alright. Compared to the whole week we have very nice conditions today: no wind, no rain (or just a breeze). The temperature is good, not as hot as in Shanghai.
Jayanta TALUKDAR (IND) It’s going OK. I am impressed with the 342 points at 90 metres by OH and of course with his FITA Round. He broke these world records with a huge gap at this level. The Korean archers have a very natural form of shooting and they train hard for it. In qualifications it’s impossible to beat them. In the matches it will be tighter.
