Two Koreans in Recurve Cadet Men final

It was a big morning of competitions in Kundu-Antalya as the cadets shot their quarter and semi-final matches at the same time as the juniors. The Koreans dominated the Recurve Men but were beaten in Recurve Women. The Americans also qualified two individuals for the compound gold finals.   As of the quarter-final matches, the cadets shoot four ends of three arrows at a target 60 meters away. The pace is different and it increases the pressure on these young athletes.  Recurve Cadet Men The no. 1 seed KIM Joo Wan (KOR) continued a very consistent run with two wins over Indian representatives. He first beat Rajgovind SWANSI (IND), 114-108, and then Hemanta BASUMATARY (IND), 113-108. It will be Mr KIM vs. Mr KIM in the final as KIM Hyun (KOR) also prevailed 112-107 against Maciej FALDZINSKI (POL) and 114-109 against the third Korean SHIN Jae Hun.   Recurve Cadet Women The two Korean representatives left in this category suffered from defeats in the quarter-finals. The no. 1 seed LIM Su Ji (KOR) lost in a shoot-off versus Lidiia SICHENIKOVA (UKR). The match ended tied at 104. Then LIM shot a 9, while SICHENIKOVA scored a perfect 10 to advance. The Ukrainian then had a thrilling semi-final versus Tatiana SEGINA (RUS). The Russian was trailing 77-78 after nine arrows, but she finished strongly (29 points out of 30) to clinch her spot in the final, 106-102. The Olympian Mariana AVITIA (MEX) took care of business against the second Korean OH Da Mee in the quarter-final, 112-108. However, the Mexican could not finish it of in her semi-final versus the no. 11 seed LIN Shih-Chia (TPE). LIN led 84-83 after nine arrows and finally won the match 112-109!   Compound Cadet Men Joey HUNT III (USA) and Phillip GOWER (GBR) had an amazing quarter-final! The match ended tied at 115 each. In the first arrow of the shoot-off, they both scored a 10. They had to release a second shoot-off arrow, which was again a 10. They did it again for the third and final shoot-off arrow! The judges had to measure who was the closest to the centre and HUNT won! He then continued with a tight match against Yiftach SWERY (NZL). SWERY was actually leading 29-28, 59-57 but HUNT came back 87-87 and clinched victory 115-114 to qualify for the gold medal match! Luca DI BENEDETTO (ITA) had just a slightly easier road. He beat the no. 2 seed C. A. RODRIGUEZ in the quarter-final, 117-114, and then had a roller-coaster match against James HIRTH (AUS) in the semi. The scores evolved 29-30, 59-57, 88-86 and finally 115-114 for DI BENEDETTO.   Compound Cadet Women The no. 9 seed Matea KOLAREK (CRO) took out the no. 1 Tristan SKARVAN (USA) in the quarter-final. The match finished tied at 110 but SKARVAN scored only a 7 in the sudden-death shoot-off. KOLAREK won it with a 9. However, the Croatian could not beat a second American. Kailey JOHNSTON (USA) beat KOLAREK 111-109 in the semi-final. In the other semi, the new match World Record holder Ekaterina KOROBEYNIKOVA (RUS) had an impressive start with a perfect 30 and 28 points in the first two ends. She finally beat G. J. TREVINO (MEX) 113-107 to reach the final!   The cadets will shoot their bronze and gold medal matches on Sunday morning, as of 9:30 local time.   Didier Miéville FITA Communication
