Elena Tonetta gathers confidence in anticipation of the World Cup Final!

The first competition day of the Junior and Cadet World Championships was marked by howling wind and stifling heat on the Inalambrica field in Merida. The Italian Recurve Woman archer Elena Tonetta is taking advantage of participating in this competition to gather some more confidence before taking part in the World Cup Grand Final on Sunday. She is currently first in her categories provisional ranking.
Junior Recurve
The best score in the Recurve Junior Men category was accomplished by a German archer, Florian Floto, who scored 606 with his 72 arrows shot at 90m and 70m. Elena Tonetta, for her part, is first in the girls' category after the first two long distances (70m and 60m) with an intermediate total of 633. She is immediately followed by two Koreans Kim Soyun (629) and Kim Sugyung (627) for the moment in Recurve Junior Women. On the men’s part, Spanish Daniel Morillo and French Romain Girouille are currently 2nd and 3rd seed.
Junior Compound
In the other junior division, namely Compound Bow, the American Erika Anschutz shot 656 points, the highest score of the day among all juniors. Anschutz is currently followed by Russian Mozhaykina and Italian Laura Longo. On the Compound Junior Men’s side, the provisional ranking is quite tight with Patrick Laursen (Denmark) first with 647 points, Zachary Plannick (USA) second with 643 and Jaime Hafid (MEX) third with 642.
Cadet Compound
The very best score of this first day was achieved by another female archer, Malin Johansson of Sweden, who shot 668 with her 72 arrows at 60m and 50m. Her dauphines for the moment are the Italian Anastasia Anastasio and the American Kendal Nicely, very close with 664 and 662 points respectively. In Compound Cadet Men, Kevin Burri of Switzerland (664) leaves his first pursuer 9 points behind for now: Brendan Wallace (AUS) is provisionally ranked second with 655, while Cory Mohana (USA) is third with 654.
Cadet Recurve
Two archers from Chinese Taipei are currently 1 and 2 seeds in the Recurve Cadet Men category. Chi-Chung Sung and his teammate Wei-Cha Cheng are ahead of Italian Luca Melotto and all the others. Cadet Men had to deal today with targets set at 70m and 60m. In the girls’ the surprising Jane Waller of Australia is first before local Janeth Garcia and another competitor from Chinese Taipei Chia-Chung Chang.
Starting at 9.00 (Mexican time), the Junior Recurve and Cadet Compound archers will continue with qualification, before the Junior Compound and Cadet Recurve follow in the afternoon shooting the remaining two distances: 50m/30m for the RJM, RJW, CJM, CJW, RCM and CCM categories and 40m/30m for the RCW and CCW.
