Wind plays a foul game with the favourites
Athens - 14 September 2006
In Recurve Men, the Italian team, the favourites for the title, were eliminated by a very strong Spanish Team who shot the highest score of the day with 207 points. Its opponent is the Belarussian Team who eliminated the Ukrainians in the first round.
The bronze medal match will be between Italy and the British Team.
The Recurve Women’s gold final will be between the British Team who took out the number one seeded Polish Team by 4 points. The British opponents in the final will be the Ukranians who is the only one of the top seeded teams that will have a chance to shoot for gold.
The Polish Team will face Germany for the bronze
The Compound Men’s final is also an unexpected one since Sweden, which didn’t have a great qualification round and which ranked only 10th, will face Croatia the 5th ranked team. Netherlands will face Germany for the third place.
The Compound Women saw an upset in the 2nd round when the first seeded Belgians were eliminated by the Italians who will face the 2nd ranked Russians in the final. The third place will be contested between the Netherlands and France.
Tomorrow will be the individual eliminations and we will see if the wind continues to play a critical deciding factor.
