Samoa puts on a Great Show

The newly created Samoan Archery Association is hosting the Oceania Continental Championships in Apia. The event was opened by the Prime Minister, who has become member of the association and who shot an arrow to open this important event.
Today was the FITA Qualifying Round with Tahiti leading in most of the events. The top Recurve Men score is 1200, shot by Tearii Winkelstroeter, who is followed in 2nd place by Andrew LeBrocq from Australia trailing by 5 points. Third is Teiva Winkelstroeter also from Tahiti. Paul Speedy, president of Papua New Guinea, is in 7th position with 1013 points.
The Recurve Women is headed by Sylvana Plazanet from New Caledonia (FRA) with 1095 points. Just behind is Jo Williams from Australia with 1089.
The Compound Men saw a great score by Heifara Gooding from Tahiti with 1356 points. 2nd place is for Tony Waddick from New Zealand with 1329 points.
The Compound Women is led by Marie Hubert from Australia with 1329 points.
The Cadet Recurve Men saw an 1111-point score by Loic Girardier from New Caledonia and the 2nd place is for Andrew Junior Ah Liki from Samoa who came very close to shooting 1000 on his first competition with 989 points. Three Cadet Recurve Women - of which two are from Fiji - are competing for the title in the Cadet Recurve Women and Eve Kohler from New Caledonia (FRA) is leading before Lani Vunisa and Kimberley Sachs both from Fiji.
The Prime Minister came to see how the arches were doing and he can be very proud of his countryfellows putting up a great tournament which is enjoyed by all participants.
