2 April 2007 - The wind, what a tricky partner!

The wind, what a tricky opponent! Ulsan – 2 April 2007  Eun Young Choi (KOR)    The first event of the 2007 Archery World Cup started this morning in Ulsan, South Korea. The Recurve Women and Compound Men divisions have had their work cut out for them since this morning in the Qualification Rounds at four distances (4 x 36 = 144 arrows). Apart from usual external influences an archer would face while shooting, the weather has added itself to the game, giving most of the competitors a hard time!   A tricky, circling wind has kept blowing the whole day on the field at the Ulsan Munsu International Centre. Moreover, the temperature has been colder than expected for this time of the year in this area. Many archers have complained of their shooting being disturbed by these weather factors.   In such conditions, specialists thought that there might be some surprises today on the field, especially concerning the Korean Recurve Women archers whose target positions are at the very left end of the field where the wind is even worse!      Logan Wilde (USA) However, half way –after 72 arrows- the Koreans are proving once again that they are the best archers in the world and even more motivated to shoot at home. The six competing archers of the host country are indeed well placed in front, four of them in the lead, while the two others are 6th and 9th respectively.   Eun Young Choi (681 points), Mi Jin Yun (664), Sung Hyun Park (663) and Chang Suk Chung (660) have even managed to shoot higher scores than the American Logan Wilde (655), the best Compound male archer this morning…   Let’s wait and see what the afternoon holds for us!
