World Cup Stage 2 – Quotes of the Day 4
Porec – 19 April 2008
We talked to the archers after the final matches today.
Natalia Valeeva (ITA) Recurve Men
Romain Girouille (FRA) In the morning I did not shoot well in the team final for bronze. I wanted to lead the team and shoot a lot of 10s but I guess I put too much pressure on myself. I talked with my coach in between the two matches. For the individual final, I decided to concentrate on the technique and not so much on the aim. It was great! The 10s came just one after the other!
Next week we have the national selection in France to decide who will participate at the European Championships in Vittel. I hope I make it and there I will have to qualify for the Olympics. If I miss it, I should have one last chance at the World Cup stage in Boé. Of course, my dream is to go to Beijing!
Recurve Women
Natalia Valeeva (ITA) I made two bad arrows in the second end and I lost four points. That was it. She was shooting too well to let me come back. Against such a great archer, if you go down at the beginning, you don’t have a chance. You need to stay close in the match to put pressure.
Amandine Bouillot (FRA) Compound Men Roberval Dos Santos (BRA) I had really a great time over here and I am just looking forward to next stage in Antalya!
Compound Women
Amandine Bouillot (FRA) In the team final, there was a lot of gusty wind that was difficult to manage. We shot a 2 and then it was difficult to come back. I don’t think we should regret anything. I could take some marks with the wind before my individual final. The wind goes right, but the tricky thing was that it was not regular.
Actually, the wind went down for the individual finals in the afternoon so there were fewer parameters to manage. However, it was my first individual final and I was much tensed at the beginning, especially with my front arm. My shooting stance wasn’t perfectly aligned. When I was losing by two points with three arrows remaining, I told myself that I needed to forget the importance of the match and give it all. I realigned my shooting stance and I just launched my arrows. The only chance to win the match was to score three 10s and I am so happy that I did it!
There are two more World Cup stages: one in Turkey and one my home country, in France. That’s two chances to ensure my place in the World Cup Final and I really hope I will do it.
Anne Laurila (FIN) Actually I wasn’t too much nervous although the venue was really special here. It does feel a bit bizarre to be on a final field of a World Cup. I am really surprise of my good result here, because it’s so cold in Finland now that I could not train much outside. My bow is actually not well tuned. I will be in Antalya and I hope to win some more matches!
