Zam SHERAB (BHU): “Participate is a great achievement” Ulsan (KOR) – 4 September 2009
The World Archery Championships are also the chance to catch up with athletes from all over the world. Here we spoke to the recurve women Zam SHERAB and Wangchok DEMA. They come from a country where archery is a very traditional sport, Bhutan.
Zam SHERAB (BHU)    What are your expectations for these World Championships? Zam: Just to participate at this event is a great achievement to gain experience. Wangchock: I just want to be in the 64th ranking, for me it’s a great achievement and I am fighting hard to reach it.
Please tell us about your life apart from competitive archery? Zam: I am involved in the archery federation and finished school in 2004. I practice every day from 8 am to 6 pm. Wangchock: I am also fully involved in archery and I have finished school.
How do you train and prepare yourself for the competition? Wangchock: I practice from 8 am to 6 pm with our coach Mr. KIM (KOR). The training is a combination of physical and mental session with yoga. Some days we only do yoga since it helps focusing and we train better.
What are your impressions of the country? It is very nice and friendly. It is completely different from Bhutan.
Is there anything you need to improve or assistance you require to help you in your archery career? Zam: I would like our system to be similar to the Korean Archery methods, I did a training camp sometime ago and their structure is very impressive. Bhutan would require the same methods of training in order to reach the top level.

   Wangchok DEMA (BHU)
Are you preparing for the next Olympic Games? Yes we are and it is our main goal. After the World Championships we are attending the 4th Asian Grand Prix in Kolkata and our federation has a specific programme of training and competitions up to the next Olympic Games.
Are you familiar with the Olympic Solidarity programmes? No unfortunately not.
If you would require assistance from FITA Development Department what would it be? We would require a long-term coach, equipment and have more national coaches in Bhutan since at the moment we only have two.
