Individual Eliminations are on at the 2nd Asian Grand Prix
Bangkok (THA) – 17 March 2010
India and Korea dominate the individual eliminations that are being shot today at the 2nd Asian Grand Prix. The competition started with a clouded sky, very high humidity and a little bit cooler temperature.
Recurve Men
In this division a domination from India was expected. To the general surprise, CHAMPIA, the number one ranked archer from India eliminated in 1/8th by ZOU from Myanmar 112-110. In quarterfinals, HTIKE from Myanmar claimed another Indian scalp. This time the victim was TALUKDAR (HTIKE trailed 27-29 and managed a come-back 84-81 to win 113-109). BANERJEE defeated LUNG from the Chinese Taipei 111-109. In semifinals, BANERJEE took an early lead over HTIKE 28-25, 55-53, 83-80, 112-107. MANOCHERI (IRI) easily defeated DENTCHAI (THA) 28-26, 57-52, 86-79, 113-106.
Recurve Women
As expected the women recurve saw Korea dominate, but KUMARI from India will shoot for gold tomorrow. The bronze medal is ensured for Korea with two team mates confronting each other.
Compound Men
The compound men is going to be won by India since two team mates will shoot for gold. The leader from qualifications Chinnaraju SHRITER will be the favorite but HANSDAH is more experienced. It could be a complete Indian podium since another Indian will shoot for bronze against YE from Myanmar.
Compound Women
The Philippine archer PAZ, the No 1 seed from qualifications, shot in semifinals against KAUR (IND). She was almost perfect throughout her match, with just one arrow out of the 10 ring in the third end. She won 30-29, 60-57, 89-85, 119-115. In the other semifinal, NASIRA (THA) led NGUYEN (MYA) 29-28, 58-58, 87-84 but lost in the final end 113-114!
