Preview: Para archers from across the Americas gather in Mexico ahead of Gwangju
The debut edition of the Americas Para Archery Cup begins this week in Morelia, Mexico, with 77 athletes looking for world ranking points in a world championships year.
It is the first time a continental para circuit has been held in the Americas – joining Europe and Asia, which already host similar events.
This new tour includes two stages: the first in Morelia from 16 to 20 July, and the second in Chicago, USA from 27 to 31 August, just weeks before the World Archery Para Championships in Gwangju, Korea.
The event also features a category for visually impaired athletes, with two archers from the host nation entered in the opening stage.
It’s a full-service event: the main competition will be held at the Venustiano Carranza stadium, but with the finals held in the historic downtown of the city, and broadcast on archery+.
