Brazil and Colombia sweep team golds at South American Games

Brazil and Colombia took centre stage as the team finals at the XIII South American Games Santa Fe 2026 came to a close in Rosario, with Brazil claiming both recurve titles and Colombia sweeping the compound team golds.

Brazil opened the finals with a commanding performance in the recurve men’s event, as Marcus D’Almeida, Matheus Gomes and Matheus Zwick Ely defeated Colombia in straight sets, 6-0.

Brazil took the first two sets, 50-48 and 55-49, before sealing the gold with a strong 59 in the third.

“They made it difficult because I had to shoot a 10 to make it perfect,” D’Almeida said in an interview with Olimpíada Todo Dia. “They both shot 10s, so I had to shoot a 10 there to make it exciting and give the people here a show.”

“In the end, I managed to do that, and I’m really happy.”

The result also fits into Brazil’s wider preparations for the Lima 2027 Pan American Games, where D’Almeida and his teammates have their sights set on the title.

“The important thing was for our team to come here, win and put together a good average and a good score, because we want to be Pan American champions next year,” he said. “Our average has to keep going up, and we’re achieving that. We’re very happy.”

Chile filled the podium with a 5-3 win over Venezuela, turning their fourth-place finish against the same opponents at Asunción 2022 into bronze this time.

Brazil then completed the recurve double in the women’s event. Ane Marcelle Dos Santos, Ana Luiza Sliachticas Caetano and Isabelle Trindade Estevez edged Colombia’s Tania Arias, Isabella Forero Martinez and Ana Maria Rendon 5-1 to take gold.

Argentina gave the home crowd another reason to celebrate, with Wanda Hilen Arca, Maria Luisina Giudice and Alma Fiorella Pueyo Lopez taking bronze after a 6-2 victory over Peru.

Colombia then took control of the compound team finals.

Pablo Gomez Zuluaga, Sebastian Arenas and Jagdeep Singh Mejia defeated Argentina’s Lucas Mariano Garcés Tarrega, Ivan Nikolajuk and Nelson Fabio Salinas 231-228 to claim the compound men’s team title.

Venezuela took bronze after a 224-221 victory over Brazil in a closely fought match. Venezuela built an early lead before Brazil fought back in the third set, but the Venezuelan team held on to secure the podium finish.

In the compound women’s final, top seeds Sara Lopez, Mariana Rodriguez and Alejandra Usquiano completed Colombia’s clean sweep of the compound team titles with a 232-215 win over Argentina.

Colombia made a fast start, shooting 60 in the opening set to establish a seven-point advantage and never allowing Argentina back into the match.

Brazil missed out on the podium after Ecuador produced a strong performance to win the bronze medal 213-200.

With the team events now complete, attention turns to the individual eliminations on Thursday, with the recurve and compound fields set to battle through to the semifinals.
