Kyle Douglas, Bodie Turner maintain clean score to lead Vegas Shoot after second day
Former champions Kyle Douglas and Bodie Turner continued to lead the championship compound men’s field with a perfect score of 600 with 60X on the second day of the competition at The Vegas Shoot.
Overall, 44 compound men still had clean scores, with one day – 30 arrows – to go before the end of qualifying. The bracket includes several top names, including Gwangju 2025 Hyundai World Archery Champion Nicolas Girard, Mike Schloesser, Ajay Scott, Abhishek Verma and Stephan Hansen, among others.
Day one joint leader Mathias Fullerton settled for 299 on the second day of scoring for a total of 599.
Eleven women – out of the 18 who shot a perfect 300 yesterday – shot clean on the second day to total 600. That includes reigning series champion Tanja Gellenthien, as well as defending champion Gracen Fletcher, former world number one Ella Gibson, and day one leader Morgan Rives, among others.
However, the women’s field was led by USA’s teenager and 13th ranked Olivia Dean and world number 445 and two-time Asia Cup winner Muskan Kirar, both of whom landed 51 of their 60 arrows in the X-ring.
USA’s Brady Ellison, the reigning series champion, maintained his lead in the recurve men’s field with a second consecutive 296 for a total of 592 on the second day of scoring.
However, Matias Grande’s 298 was the best score of the day, helping him climb to second place on 591, the same as France’s Thomas Chirault after he shot 295 on the day. Among others, Brazil’s Marcus D’Almeida and USA’s Nicolas D'Amour were three and four points behind leader Ellison on 589 and 588, respectively.
The recurve women’s competition was led by defending champion and reigning series champion
Casey Kaufhold on 589 after scoring 295 on the second day, to stay two points ahead of teenager Angela Ruiz, Gabriela Schloesser, and day one leader Victoria Sebastian on 587.
The Vegas Shoot is the seventh and final leg of the circuit, unlike previous years when it hosted the sixth leg followed by the Indoor Archery World Series Finals.
This year, points towards the elite and open rankings have been accrued since last October at tournaments in Lausanne, Luxembourg, Taipei, Rio, Nimes, Merida and Vegas to determine the series champions.
Live broadcast from the championship shootdowns will be available on Sunday with a subscription to archery+.
