W1 women world number one Musilova breaks own world record at Santiago 2026
It may be a smaller field than usual, but the ambition certainly wasn't lacking on Thursday by archers at the Santiago 2026 Hyundai World Para Series, as Sarka Pultar Musilova emphatically broke her own record in qualifications.
Should the result be ratified by World Archery, the world number one in W1 women has now broken a staggering total of four individual world records, twice in the individual indoor round of 60 arrows at 18 metres and now twice outdoors.
Sarkar set a new 72-arrow world record for the category at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games - where she finished individual silver medallist for the second Games running - with a 359 but smashed it by eight points at the Peñalolen National Training Centre on Thursday morning, making it 367 and included 22 10s.
Musilova, 35, dropped 339 in the first half of proceedings and then 328 in the second to far exceed her competitors in qualification - second seed and compatriot Tereza Brandtlova finished 50 points behind her [617] - to now crown herself the top seed in three consecutive appearances on the inaugural Para Series circuit.
The pole position in Nove Mesto and Ahmedabad paid dividends as she went on to clinch individual gold in both those competitions, and given that her sterling form seems to be continuing, it certainly is a tall order for the three others in the W1 women entry list to topple her.
A fellow world record breaker also put in an impressive performance in Chile..
Double 50 metres round holder Kevin Polish finished top in para compound men qualifications, accumulating a fine 696 score, two points behind his season best of 698 - achieved at Nove Mesto - but still putting himself firmly ahead, as Mexico's Omar Echeverria in second seed got 684.
The biggest surprise of the day was in the para recurve men, as Brazilian Thiago Pinheiro da Silva beat two-time Paralympian and world number two Samuel Molina [616] to pole position in para recurve men, dropping 622.
Competition at the Santiago 2026 World Para Series continues on Friday with eliminations before the weekend's finals.
