It may be a smaller field than usual, but ambition was not lacking on Thursday at the Santiago 2026 Hyundai World Para Series, as Sarka Pultar Musilova emphatically broke her own world record in qualification.

f ratified by World Archery, the performance will mark the fourth time the Czech has broken an individual world record, twice in the 60-arrow indoor round at 18 metres and twice outdoors.

The W1 women’s world number one set the previous 72-arrow world record with a score of 659 at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, where she claimed individual silver for the second consecutive Games. On Thursday morning at the Peñalolén National Training Centre, she improved that mark by eight points, scoring 667 points.

The 35-year-old scored 339 in the first half of qualification and 328 in the second, finishing well clear of her competitors. Second seed and compatriot Tereza Brandtlova scored 617 – 50 points behind Musilova – who has now topped the qualification rankings at all three of her appearances on the inaugural Para Series circuit.

Top seed in Nove Mesto and Ahmedabad, Musilova went on to win individual gold at both events. With her impressive form continuing in Santiago, the three other archers in the W1 women’s field face a tough challenge to stop her from completing another victory.

Another world record holder also impressed in Chile.

Kevin Polish, the holder of two world records in the 50-metre round, topped qualification in para compound men with a score of 696. Just two points short of his season best of 698, achieved in Nove Mesto, the USA archer finished comfortably ahead of Mexico’s Omar Echeverria, who scored 684.

The biggest surprise of the day came in para recurve men, where Brazil’s Thiago Pinheiro da Silva claimed top seed with 622 points, beating two-time Paralympian and world number two Samuel Molina, who scored 616.

Competition at the Santiago 2026 Hyundai World Archery Para Series continues on Friday with eliminations, before the finals over the weekend.
