Great performances at Para Archery European Championships Lausanne – 16 August 2010 Philippe HORNER (SUI)    The Para Archery European Championships 2010 were held in Vichy, France from 8 to 15 August. The level of competition proved high with two world records beaten on the first day of competition by Swiss archer Philippe HORNER and British lady Danielle BROWN.   Recurve Men Class W2 In this category, Paul BROWN (GBR) took gold, beating Mustafa DEMIR (TUR) 7-3. The bronze medal went to Piotr SAWICKI (POL) who took over Gints JONASTS (LAT).   Recurve Women Class W2 Roksolana DZOBA (UKR) won the European title in recurve women W2 after an easy victory 7-1 over Elisabetta MIJNO (ITA) in the gold final. Hatice BAYAR (TUR) gave a second medal to Turkey beating Kate MURRAY (GBR) in the bronze medal match.   Recurve Men Class Standing In recurve men standing, victory was for Mikhail OYUN (RUS) who easily beat Alexandre LASVENES (FRA) 6-0 in the gold medal match. His fellow countryman Timur TUCHINOV (RUS) won bronze 6-2 against Mustafa AK (TUR).   Recurve Women Class Standing Another gold medal for Great Britain with Kay LUKAS (GBR) winning the European title in recurve women standing. She beat Eliane SALDEN-OTTEN (NED) 6-4 in the gold final. The bronze medal in this category went to Magali COMTE (SUI) who defeated Brigitte DUBOC (FRA) 6-2.   Compound Men Class W1 Jean-Pierre ANTONIOS (FIN) offered an individual gold to Finland, winning the compound men W1 class 6-0 against David DRAHONISKY (CZE). The bronze medallist was Osmo KINNUNEN (FIN) who defeated Fabio AZZOLINI (ITA) 6-2.   Compound Men Class Open Philippe HORNER (SUI) took the European title after defeating Alberto SIMONELLI (ITA) 7-1 in the gold final. Before that, during qualifications, HORNER had broken the compound open men's world record with 701 points, becoming the first archer in a wheel-chair to shoot more than 700 points. The bronze medal in this category was taken by John Stephen STUBBS (GBR) after a victory in the bronze medal match 6-4 against Maurice CHAMPAY (FRA).   Compound Women Class Open Danielle BROWN (GBR) once again proved the best of her category. She first set another world record on day one in Vichy, qualifying with a score of 697 points. In the gold final, she let no chances to her teammate Philippa BRITTON (GBR), with a win by 6-2. The bronze went to Zandra REPPE (SWE) who defeated Gulbin SU (TUR) 7-3.   Visually Impaired Class Open The visually impaired European title went to local archer Noel GABRIEL (FRA) who beat Claudio PERUFFO (ITA) 6-0 in the gold medal match.
