World Cup Finalists for Edinburgh

Chris WHITE (GBR)
As a recap, the athletes had four World Cup stages in Porec (CRO), Antalya (TUR), Ogden (USA) and Shanghai (CHN) to gather points in the World Cup ranking. Only the top three results counted and a tie in the final ranking would be broken by the FITA World Ranking. After Shanghai, the top 7 in the World Cup ranking qualify for the World Cup Final in Edinburgh. They are joined by a British wild card in all the categories.   Archery GB has now given the names of the wild cards: Al WILLS in recurve men, Naomi FOLKARD in recurve women, Chris WHITE in compound men and Andrea GALES in compound women.   On another note, the Chinese athlete GUO Faping qualified in the recurve women's ranking although she could not compete in the last Shanghai stage, but she will not be able to come to Edinburgh. She will thus be replaced by the next athlete in the ranking, Dola BANERJEE (IND). The Indian athlete had won the World Cup Final in Dubai in 2007.   The qualified archers for Edinburgh are below:   Recurve Men Brady ELLISON (USA), Michele FRANGILLI (ITA), Marco GALIAZZO (ITA), IM Dong-Hyun (KOR), KIM Woojin (KOR), Jayanta TALUKDAR (IND), Simon TERRY (GBR) and Al WILLS (GBR).   Recurve Women Dola BANERJEE (IND), Naomi FOLKARD (GBR), KI Bo Bae (KOR), Victoriya KOVAL (UKR), Deepika KUMARI (IND), Elena KUZNETSOVA (BLR), Justyna MOSPINEK (POL) and YUN Ok-Hee (KOR).   Compound Men Martin DAMSBO (DEN), Braden GELLENTHIEN (USA), Jorge JIMENEZ (ESA), Sergio PAGNI (ITA), Shaun TEASDALE (NZL), Dietmar TRILLUS (CAN), Chris WHITE (GBR) and Rodger WILLET Jr. (USA).   Compound Women Erika ANSCHUTZ (USA), Nicky HUNT (GBR), Andrea GALES (GBR), Albina LOGINOVA (RUS), Linda OCHOA (MEX), Jamie VAN NATTA (USA), Sandrine VANDIONANT (FRA) and Ashley WALLACE (CAN).   Head-to-head single eliminations matches of 5 sets of 3 arrows will be played in Edinburgh directly as of the quarterfinals. The No 1 in the World Cup ranking will play against the wild card. The No 2 will play against the No 7, and so on.   No athlete has ever won the World Cup Final twice since its creation in 2006. Some of them in Edinburgh will be in the race for this feat: GALIAZZO and IM in recurve men, BANERJEE and YUN in recurve women, JIMENEZ, PAGNI and TRILLUS in compound men, and VAN NATTA in compound women.   The best mixed teams throughout the World Cup season will also go to Edinburgh to shoot against the hosts Great Britain. In recurve it will be USA composed of ELLISON and Jennifer NICHOLS against TERRY and FOLKARD. In compound Mexico finally won the place by getting the gold medal in Shanghai. They will be represented by Hafid JAIME and OCHOA and will play against WHITE and HUNT.   Didier MIEVILLE World Archery Communication
