Compound Men   Reza ZAMANINEJAD (IRI)   We needed a bit more luck to have a chance against the USA in the semifinal. Otherwise, the morning went really well. We can just hope to shoot even a bit better next time. We are training hard for this. The complete archery team, recurve and compound, is together at our national training centre in Teheran.   Recurve Women   Karina WINTER (GER)   This bronze medal is a true surprise! We did a great job, a great competition! I believe the 5th place in the qualifications gave us a boost of confidence and the belief that we could make our way to the podium. Earning a higher rank in the qualifications is always a good thing.   Against Italy we did shot a couple of 6s. However, we also shot 10s. I mean, we knew we could finish with good arrows, and we knew that they also could also shoot a 6. That is exactly what happened in the last arrow. The situation of the match can change with every end, every arrow, and you must always believe until it is finished that you can win.   On one side, we are very active in the winter, because we have an Indoor Club Bundesliga (League). So it is good to keep shooting, but we have to adapt our stance, our technique when we start to shoot the outdoor season again. My indoor world champion title in 2009 is a great memory, but I actually prefer shooting outdoor. I feel more “free” outdoor.   Amy OLIVER (GBR)   Although the wind was a bit tricky, I think we shot a great team round. We communicated well, telling each other how is the wind, where to aim off, etc... We shot well, the Koreans just shot better. We trained a lot this winter. We trained at 70 meters indoor and as soon as we could we went outside. I believe that paid off in our 1/8 elimination match.   In my individual match on Tuesday, I also lost against a Korean athlete, the No. 1 seed HAN Gyeonghee. I have never shot against a Korean before, and I must say was not nervous, because I didn’t think I had something too lose. She shot awesome, that was inspiring. I am still in the learning curve.   Archers like Simon TERRY and Alison WILLIAMSON brings a lot of experience to the complete GBR team. They give us a lot of insight on what comes next. However, the events also bring experience. Last year, I was already at the World Cup Stage in Porec. This year, I knew what to expect. I knew the hotel, the field. It even helped with little things like what to put in my suitcase before coming here. The biggest experience for me has been the gold final at the Commonwealth Games. The nervousness, the adrenaline, the atmosphere: you cannot simulate this. The experience I got there is as precious as the medal.   Compound Women   Tania ZORMAN (CRO) – on the practice field   We actually don’t have a full compound women team this year, but I am glad to practice. Especially now, that there are not many people on the field anymore. I take advantage of it (the outdoor field), because usually I must train in my room at the university.   During the week I didn’t shoot so well in qualifications. I had a little issue with my equipment. It got solved for the elimination matches and then I was happy the way I shot, even if I got out too quickly.   My family is very involved in archery as my father has a dealership and my sister is shooting this week in Porec as well, in the recurve women team. I believe archery is being developed in Croatia. I see more clubs, more archers at the beginner level. What we are still missing is the elite side, but that can only come with a growth at the grassroots level first.   World Archery Communication
