The wind was extremely strong. My opponent, teammate KI Bo Bae is also very strong but probably today the wind was the strongest opponent. Still I am very happy that I won a tournament at the highest level. I hope there will be more victories to come.   Although I am only 20 years old there are many high-level archers in Korea that are even younger than me. I tried to join the national team years before this but in a sense these failures have helped me to get stronger. Now it is a great experience to be part of the Korean national team. I don’t feel 100% confident that I will be in the national team again next year for the Olympic Games but I feel like I have some time ahead of me to get more confidence and get ready for the trials with a 100% chance to make it. It would be so great to participate in the biggest sport event in the world!   KI Bo Bae (KOR) – Silver in individual I am not angry that I lost the match. In fact I was confident before the match but the wind made it really, really difficult. I am disappointed but this time I don’t think I have been really lucky with the wind.   The “miss” I shot is my very first during a competition. I was trying to aim off to counter the wind but I suddenly found myself out of the target just at the moment I reached my clicker. You know when an archer hears the clicker she must shoot. Here is the explanation.   I was the youngest in the team last year but this year I am actually the most experienced, so I feel that I have to help my young teammates (JUNG and HAN). Although I am not shooting perfectly myself, I have to take the responsibility to lead the team. I feel good about it.   Compound Men  Rodger WILLET Jr. (USA) – Gold in individual I admit I was a bit lucky to start the match with 10-10-10. Actually with this wind, I was only trying to shoot in the yellow (10 or 9), I was not concerned about shooting 10s and that was not easy since as I dropped a few 8s and 7s. Of course, with my good start and since I was ahead, at least it gave me some confidence.   I must say thank you to my coach, Mel NICHOLS. He gave me some good advices with my technique and how to shoot in the wind today. If you look at the qualifications scores, you can see that a lot of guys actually ranked actually higher than I did both in Porec and Antalya. I have now a streak going on in the matches, but I really would like to stay humble about it.   I did not qualify for the team going to the world championships at the US trials. I fully respect our qualification system and I believe there are three great guys from the USA going to the world championships. They are probably the best in the world and I wish them good luck to show it during the competition in Turin.   Dietmar TRILLUS (CAN) – Bronze in individual Well, the wind certainly made it interesting to say the least... I had to add one pound of weight to my bow to try to handle it. The wind on the competitive field was actually not as bad as in the warm-up field. During warm-up, I was just happy to reach the target. During the competition, I could at least aim for the yellow and hope to get there. And to be honest, since Seppie missed a couple of arrows at the beginning of the match, I shot very conservatively just trying to keep it in the yellow. I knew I was not going to shoot a world record today (smile). I am happy with my first World Cup participation this year: 4th in qualifications and 3rd in the final ranking. I just lost in the semifinal against a very sharp and perfect gentleman, Rodger WILLET Jr.   Seppie CILLIERS (RSA) – 4th place I am not a wind shooter. I could not settle down with the wind and let the trigger go smoothly. I had to shoot all the time with a few seconds left. I had to punch my shots, which I don’t usually do, and I missed. Hopefully I will have another chance at a medal during the world championships next month.   Compound Women   Parsmehr MAHTAB – Gold in individual I am very happy to accept gold today. I worked hard for it and I would like to thank my coaches and the support from my national federation. We are actually used to shooting in the wind when we are training back home and as I said, we train a lot! So I did not find it so difficult to shoot today in these conditions. For the future, I simply hope to keep shooting my best. If I win or make 2nd or 3rd this is just bonus for me. I focus first on shooting my best.   World Archery Communication
