The US archer led after three arrows, 29-28. In next three ends, the two shot perfect scores and GELLENTHIEN kept his lead (59-58/89-88/119-118). The final shot was a perfect X10 for GELLENTHIEN for a win on a very strong score of 148. PAGNI led by one point after the first three arrows (30-29), but the score was tied after six (59-59), nine (88-88), and twelve (118-118). After the first arrow of the final end (10 each), there was still a tie. A result came in this match on the penultimate arrow: 9 for PAGNI and 8 for BOE. The two competitors ended with an X10 and victory went to the Italian (147-146).   Compound Men – Quarterfinal In the previous round the second seeded competitor Jesse BROADWATER (USA/2) posted a perfect score of 150 points. Slavko TURSIC (SLO/7) had the difficult challenge to shoot against the American in the quarterfinal. The Slovene had a perfect start and led by three points, 30-27, after three arrows. It was then BROADWATER's to get a 30. His arrows did not miss the 10-ring for the rest of the match and he overwhelmed TURSIC by 147-142.   Three archers shot close to perfection in the quarterfinal. Gabriel BADENHORST (RSA/19) upset the World Cup champion Sergio PAGNI (ITA/6) reaching 149 points, versus 146 for his opponent. Facing each other Christopher PERKINS (CAN/5) and Braden GELLENTHIEN (USA/4) also scored 149. This led them to a shoot-off arrow where the Canadian had an X10 for a win over his American neighbour's 10.   The fourth quarterfinal between Reo WILDE (USA/1) AND Pierre Julien DELOCHE (FRA/9) was also a close match. The No. 1 seeded American had a strong start with 60 points and led by two points after six arrows. The difference remained with three arrows to go as the archers then scored 29 points each.
