Stepanida ARTAHINOVA, Marina LYZHNIKOVA and Olga POLEGAEVA
Stepanida ARTAKHINOVA (RUS) won two world titles (team and mixed team) and one silver medal (individual) at the World Archery Para Championships that ended on Sunday, 17 July 2011 in Turin, Italy.
The 21-year old Russian para-archer shoots in the compound women open class. However, she has also been competing in tournaments for the able-bodied, where her major achievement was 1st place in the compound women team's event at the European Grand Prix 2011 in Boe, France.
At the World Archery Para Championships 2011, ARTAKHINOVA won the world title in both the team and mixed team events. And she even added another world championships medal to her name with silver in compound women open individual. Seeded No. 2, she only lost to the top archer Danielle BROWN (GBR), 3-7 in the gold medal match.
In Turin, there were two other duels between ARTAKHINOVA and BROWN through their respective teams. The Russian, together with her teammates Marina LYZHNIKOVA and Olga POLEGAEVA, proved more consistent in the compound women open team's gold final and clinched victory 212-198.
ARTAHINOVA with Mikhail DIKTOVANNYY
In the compound mixed team's event, ARTAKHINOVA paired with fellow countryman Mikhail DIKTOVANNYY, who shoots with one arm only. And once again it was a gold medal match between Russia and Great Britain! This encounter was very encounter, but for the second time in Turin, the match balanced in favour of the East European contenders, 154-153.
