Brady ELLISON (USA) confirms his status as World Cup leader

Athletes shot their matches in the form of a 70m Round (2 x 36 arrows). The overall level of competition was very high.
Recurve Men
The surprise leader after 36 arrows was the youngest archer on the field, Gael PREVOST (FRA) who broke his personal best on the distance with 342 points out of 360! He was followed by fellow team member Romain GIROUILLE (FRA), 2nd with 340 points. Crispin DUENAS (CAN) was 3rd with 339 points. The current leader of the World Cup, American Brady ELLISON, who was in the lead at the beginning, lost a few points here and there in the last end to place 5th (339) in the provisional ranking. PREVOST was less consistent in the second half to finish 4th overall. Still, he broke his personal best in the 70m Round with 675 points. Brady ELLISON, who recently won the bronze medal at the World Archery Championships, capitalized on the situation to finish 1st with 683 points. He had a comfortable margin over the second-best archer of the day Dmytro HRACHOV (UKR) at 676 points. Crispin DUENAS (CAN) was very steady throughout qualifications to end up in 3rd place with 675 points.
Recurve Women
As on the men’s side, a very young archer was in the lead halfway through qualifications: the 18-year-old Miranda LEEK from the USA scored 333. This total was matched by Natalia VALEEVA (ITA). Fellow Italian Jessica TOMASI start well, with the provisional 4th place (330 points). The new world champion from Chile Denisse VAN LAMOEN was less consistent, shooting 317 points for 17th place finish.
In the second half, Bishindee URANTUNGALAG from Mongolia surprised everyone with a first-place finish. With 661 points, she finished just ahead of the favourite Natalia VALEEVA (660) and the newcomer Miranda LEEK (3rd with also 660 points).
Recurve Men Team
With 3 men among the top 10 of the provisional ranking, France took an anticipated lead (1019) over China (1012) and the host team USA (1005 points) after 36 arrows. Great scores from Brady ELLISON in the second half catapulted the US team into 1st place with 2016 points, ahead of China (2011) and France (2005).
Recurve Women Team
On the women’s side, the world champion Italy shared the 1st place with the India team with 978 in the first half. The French women were in 3rd with 954 points. However the second series wasn’t easy for them: they lost four ranks and finished in 7th place. The Italian team had difficulty in second half as well which cost them the lead. It went to the USA who scored 1957. China was 2nd with 1943 points, while India, the most consistent nation overall, finished in 3rd (1936).
The competition continues in the afternoon with the Mixed Team Eliminations.
