Athlete of the Week: Philippe HORNER (SUI) Lausanne – 16 August 2011  Philippe HORNER (SUI) has both the French and Swiss nationalities. In 2008, he won the bronze medal at the Paralympic Games in Beijing, where he competed for Switzerland. On 12-17 August 2011, he competed at the Para-Archery World Ranking Event in Nymburk, Czech Republic where he stood 1st after qualification with 699 points and then won the gold medal match on 16 August.   HORNER has been shooting in both disabled and able-bodied competitions. He lives in France, 500 metres from the Swiss border, but has been training in Switzerland on a field adapted for wheelchairs.   After winning bronze in Beijing and shooting in an exhibition match against the new female able-bodied Olympic champion ZHANG Juan Juan (CHN) at the 2008 Archery World Cup Final in Lausanne, HORNER started competing in the able-bodied World Cup circuit in 2010. The same year he finished 8th at the European Archery Championships in Rovereto, Italy—an able-bodied event also.   In 2010, he then won the individual and team gold medals at the European Para Championships in Vichy, France.
