KIM and SHIN strike world records!

Recurve junior man KIM Seong Hoon (KOR) and cadet woman SHIN Jeong Hwa (KOR) both beat the FITA Round world record in their categories with respectively 1351 and 1389 points.
After the Recurve Cadet Men yesterday, all the other recurve categories shot their qualifications today. The junior men shot 4x 36 arrows at 90, 70, 50 and 30 metres, the junior women 4x 36 arrows at 70, 60, 50 and 30 metres and the cadet women 4x 36 arrows at 60, 50, 40 and 30.
Recurve Junior Men
In this category, KIM was only beaten at one distance. He was 2nd at 70 metres with 330 points, while current junior world champion Rick VAN DER VEN (NED) had 331. In the other distances, KIM was sovereign with 322 points at 90m, 341 at 50m and 358 at 30m. Although he did not shoot a world record on a particular distance, he broke the FITA Round world record with 1351 points, surpassing Frenchman Gael PREVOST’s mark of 1346 shot at the Antalya World Cup this year. SUNG Wookyeong (KOR) was pretty consistent too with 2nd place at 90m (318), 4th place at 70m (328), 2nd at 50m (341) and 4th at 30m (354). He achieved a total of 1341 points. VAN DER VEN started well with 3rd place at 90m (317) and the best score at 70m (331). He did not finish on the same line with 9th place at 50m (332) and 11th at 30m (351) for a total of 1331 points. On the other hand, PREVOST started slowly with 306 points at 90m (9th), and 326 points at 70m (7th). He ended the qualifications on a better note with 338 at 50m and 354 at 30m (3rd on both). Overall he took the 4th rank with 1324.
The third Korean, KIM Joo Wan, took 5th place with 1316 followed by CHEN Yu-Cheng (CHN), 1312, Atanu DAS (IND) and Rick VAN DEN OEVER (NED), 1310. These top 8 archers will enter the 1/16 eliminations directly for the elimination matches.
Recurve Junior Men Team
Korea built a strong lead in the team event as KIM/KIM/SUNG combined for 4008 points. Netherlands was the only other one to be above 3900 points, with 3910. qualifying spot, the 16th place, with 3713.
Recurve Junior Women
Two Korean archers finished the FITA Round on top tied at 1333 points. However KIM Minjung had 72 tens to take the 1st place, while AN Sejin had 60. The Commonwealth Champion, at the senior level, Deepika KUMARI (IND) finished 3rd with 1329 points, two more than the last Korean LEE Jinyeong. ZHU Jian (CHN) took the 5th place with 1323, ahead of Miranda LEEK (USA), 1320. LEEK has had a streak of good results at the senior level recently. Another relatively experienced archer, C. R. CHRISTIANSEN (DEN) finished 7th with 1310, ahead of the surprising Carrie WEIGH (NED), 1306. Other notable archers who missed a top 8 spot include Lidiia SICHENIKOVA (UKR), 9th, Natalia LESNIAK (POL), 11th, TAN Ya-Ting (TPE), 13th, Anna BOMBOEVA (RUS), 15th, Rimil BURIULY (IND), 16th, Tatiana SEGINA (RUS), 22nd and Mariana AVITIA (MEX), 25th. This category truly has a very talented field of athletes!
Recurve Junior Women Team
Again a strong domination from Korea, at first place with 3993 points. However, China was also above 3900 points, with 3903. Chinese Taipei had 3896, India, 3876 and Russia 3843. The USA was 16th with 3647.
Recurve Cadet Women
SHIN dominated the field with a world record at 60m (345 points), at 40m (349), at 30m (356) and for the FITA Round (1389)! She was also 1st at 50m but her 339 points were shy of TAN Ya-Ting’s record set at the Youth World Championships Kundu-Antalya 2008 with 349 points. TAN went on to win the silver medal at the Singapore Youth Olympic Games 2010.
It was a Korean sweep as RYOO Su Jung was 2nd with 1371 ahead of teammate KANG Chae Young, 1355. Alejandra VALENCIA (MEX) scored 1351, WU Chia-Hung (TPE) had 1341, Ana BAYARDO (MEX), 1338 and Dobromira DANAILOVA (BUL), 1334. For the 8th spot, Dinara YANBARISOVA (RUS) and Rebecca MARTIN (GBR) had to contest a shoot-off as they both scored 1331 points in the FITA Round. The Russian won it to enter directly into the 1/16 eliminations.
Recurve Cadet Women Team
Best total of the day for Korea, 4115 points! Russia scored 3958, slightly ahead of the 3953 points from Ukraine. China took 4th place with 3925, ahead of India with 3896. In 16th, the Polish hosts took the last qualifying spot with 3616 points!
Tomorrow is the big individual eliminations day!
