Amazing volunteers in Legnica

There are many reasons why volunteers signed up to help in the event. Some of them have done it for pleasure, while others just wanted to fill their free summer time. It was also a possible option for completing a higher education practice/internship. No matter why they have been doing it, they are all fully involved with their task at the youth world championships. We asked some volunteers to take a short break and answer some questions.   For what reason are you here? I am of the opinion that the World Archery Youth Championships are a great possibility to check my knowledge, self-discipline, my organizational and language skills, said Agnes, one of the volunteers. This is a huge chance for us to develop, to meet people from other countries, to become acquainted with their culture and to promote ours. We are truly excited about it.   What should be the characteristic features of the volunteers? A characteristic feature of a volunteer is his/her willingness to help others. In principle the work is done without any payment. They are doing it because they want to. Moreover, they are hard-working and patient. Working on the stadium, translating, distributing of water–these are many different tasks given to them.   What do you think about the organization of the youth championships in Legnica? Such an international event promotes this town and our country, said Paul. Moreover inhabitants from the city who have been coming to watch the competitions confirmed that the archers are nice and open to them. This brought a smile on their faces.   What was the greatest surprise for you? During the championships we were given some small gifts. A badge with a national flag of the team; a handmade bracelet or cookies were fantastic souvenirs for our work. We will have a lot of very nice memories when the championships are finished. Every day we are given new tasks with which we can get new experiences. We are thankful for this.   What is your opinion of the participants? In my humble opinion archers are great because they are open and friendly toward us. We can learn other languages. We find out how to say `thank you’ in Chinese or Japanese. The athletes also want to learn Polish. Legnica is a multi-cultural city for the duration of the championships and we hope that such a sporting event will be organised here again!   Barbara OKINSKA and Monica SZPAKOWSKA World Archery Communication
