All qualifiers for the Archery GB National Series Grand Final in Liverpool
Lilleshall (GBR) – 31 August 2011
Andrea GALES
Local archers Duncan BUSBY and Liam GRIMWOOD will be aiming to be the best in Great Britain when they take part in the Archery GB National Series Grand Final at Liverpool's Speke Hall on 18 September 2011.
Both Commonwealth champion BUSBY, and GRIMWOOD, a world championships silver medallist in 2009, will be among four archers competing to be the compound men's National Series champion. They will feature alongside 12 other archers who will also be battling it out for four national titles.
BUSBY had already secured his place in the compound men's event at Speke Hall before the fifth and final National Series qualifying tournament at York. But GRIMWOOD needed a top three finish to secure his place alongside BUSBY, and duly delivered by coming second. He will now compete for the National Series title alongside BUSBY, defending champion Chris WHITE and Adam RAVENSCROFT.
"How could I not feature at a prestigious event for archery held in my own home city," said GRIMWOOD. "Speke Hall's a fantastic venue, and will make a wonderful setting for an archery tournament, and it will be great having friends and family coming along to support me. This is the prestigious domestic archery event of the year, and winning it in Liverpool would be fantastic. Both me and Duncan will be really up for it, but so too will Chris and Adam, our rivals on the day, who are also top class archers. It will be a terrific day, with a great atmosphere."
Alison WILLIAMSON
Along with BUSBY and GRIMWOOD, other finalists will include Alison WILLIAMSON, who is looking to compete in her sixth Olympic Games at London next year. She also secured her place at the weekend, and will line up alongside defending champion Naomi FOLKARD, Amy OLIVER and Charlotte BURGESS in the recurve women's final.
Larry GODFREY, Simon TERRY and Alan WILLS will be joined by teenager Andrew RANDALL in the recurve men's National Series final, while Andrea GALES, Rikki BINGHAM, Lucy O'SULLIVAN and defending champion Nichola SIMPSON will compete for the compound women's title.
"We now have a fantastic line up for the Grand Final, and it's going to be a great day at a fabulous venue," said National Series organiser Jon NOTT. "I am so chuffed to be going to Speke Hall, and it's also an appropriate venue, with Archery GB celebrating its 150th anniversary, and the organisation's first ever committee meeting being held at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool back in 1861."
Archery GB National Series Grand Final line-up:
