6 September 2011 - Athlete of the Week: Petra GOEBEL (AUT)

Athlete of the Week: Petra GOEBEL (AUT) Lausanne – 6 September 2011  The Austrian compound archer Petra GOEBEL (maiden name FRIEDL) won two medals at the World Archery 3D Championships in her home country last weekend: individual silver and team bronze. An all-round archer, she has also won several medals and titles in field archery (World Championships and World Games), and she is also a competitive athlete in outdoor target archery.   Petra GOEBEL has been shooting since 1992. She achieved her best successes between 2001 and 2005, reaching the top 1 place of the world ranking in July 2003 (currently, she is 75th).   At the end of 2005, the Austrian was unable to shoot for half a year due to health problems and then again in 2007. As a result, she was not up to participate in any competition in 2006 and 2007.   Back on track, GOEBEL achieved strong results in 2009 with the highlight being the World Games title in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei. This year, she finished 17th at the World Championships in Turin in July and has just clinched two medals at the 3D World Championships "at home" a few days ago.   Biography Extract:  Petra GOEBEL (AUT) – Born 24 March 1971  2nd Individual World Archery 3D Championships Donnersbach-Pl. 2011 3rd Team World Archery 3D Championships Donnersbach-Pl. 2011 1st Individual World Games Kaohsiung (Field Archery) 2009 5th Team World Cup Stage Porec 2009 3rd Individual World Games Duisburg (Field Archery) 2005 8th Individual World Archery Championships Madrid 2005 2nd Individual World Archery Field Championships Plitvice 2004 1st Individual European Grand Prix Circuit 2003 5th Individual World Archery Field Championships Canberra 2002 2nd Team World Archery Field Championships Canberra 2002 2nd Individual European Grand Prix Circuit 2002 6th Individual World Archery Championships Beijing 2001 1st Individual European Grand Prix Circuit 1999   Find more information on Petra GOEBEL (and all other archers) at the World Archery website as well as on her Facebook page.   World Archery Communication
