25 September 2011 - Field archers very close in World Ranking

Field archers very close in World Ranking Lausanne – 25 September 2011   This year the Field Archery World Ranking has been very exciting in several categories. With 113 tournaments shot and 125 listed, it is getting close for first place in many categories. Some are still too close to call.
It has been getting so close that in several categories archers are ranked on top positions with (almost) the same score. The difference is only made behind the comma, and for the Barebow Women it comes to 0.037 points for the first place position. This is less than a hair difference in 432 shots!   The closest categories are:   Compound Master Men: 1 Jozef GENIJN BEL 387 2 Nico VERHOEVEN BEL 387 3 Dee WILDE USA 386 The difference between GENIJN and VERHOEVEN is just 0.64 points.
Recurve Master Men: 1 Sigmund LINDBERGET NOR 325 2 Frans VAN DER BERSSELAAR NED 324 Although (rounded) the difference is a full point in reality the difference is only: 0.37 in favour of LINDBERGET.
Instinctive Senior Men: 1 Wolfgang OCENASEK AUT 315 2 Csaba VIGH HUN 315 The difference for 1st place between OCENASEK and VIGH is 0.15 points.
The most interesting though is the Barebow Senior Women category: 1 Christine GAUTHE FRA 305 2 Monika JENTGES GER 305 3 Reingild LINHART AUT 305 4 Eleonora STROBBE ITA 304 5 Jutta SCHNEIDER-BORNS GER 304 The difference between No. 1, GAUTHE, and No. 2, JENTGES, is less than the blink of an eye: 0.037. Number 3, LINHART, follows on 0.29 from GAUTHE.
And if you think that it is close, No. 4 and 5 are only 0.012 points apart. So SCHNEIDER-BORNS is very close to STROBBE for 4th place. Measured in centimetres that is a difference of 0.00013 cm (over 432 arrows).
With many of these archers shooting at the European Championships, it will be exciting to see what happens in September and in the coming months.   For more information see: www.archeryranking.org   Rene KOOT World Archery Communication
