Team Mongolia at Asian Championships 2011 (URANTUNGALAG right)
The female archer from Mongolia Bishindee URANTUNGALAG has just offered an Olympic ticket to her country. She finished 2nd of the Asian Continental Qualification Tournament that took place on 24 October 2011 in Tehran, Iran at the conclusion of the Asian Championships.
URANTUNGALAG finished 3rd in the ranking round of the Asian Archery Championships. She then easily went through the 1/16 elimination round but was stopped by her teammate Chuluun OYUNSUREN (14) in 1/8 elimination after a shoot-off.
In the team event of the continental championships, URANTUNGALAG, OYUNSUREN and Chuluunbaatar MUNKHTSETSEG were seeded No. 3 after qualification. They beat the host country Iran (6) in quarterfinal and then the No. 2 seeded nation China in semifinal, before losing to the top seeded team Japan in the gold medal match.
URANTUNGALAG then competed in the Continental Qualification Tournament and finished on top of the ranking round among a total of 31 women. Seeded No. 1, the Mongolian easily won her 1/8 elimination round (7-1), quarterfinal (6-0) and semifinal (6-0), but tripped over the No. 11 seed from Indonesia Ika Yuliana ROCHMAWATI in the final match after a shoot-off. However, both athletes earned an Olympic quota place for their country, as well as Nurul Syafiiqah HASHIM from Malaysia.
Today ranked 25th in the world, URANTUNGALAG has certainly achieved her best season in 2011. Before the good results in Tehran in October, she won the team event at the 2nd Asian Grand Prix in Vientiane, Laos in April. She then ranked 6th at the World Cup Stage in Antalya and 7th in Shanghai, finishing 10th of the overall World Cup ranking, just three points away from a qualification for the Istanbul Final.
