7 February 2012 - Quotes of the Indoor Worlds Eliminations

Quotes of the Indoor Worlds Eliminations Las Vegas – 7 February 2012   The compound elimination rounds took place this afternoon at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Here are the reactions of the athletes live from the field.   Compound Men  Gerardo ALVARADO (MEX) At the beginning of the shooting session I was very nervous because I had to face Braden GALLANTHIEN, seeded no. 1 in the qualification round. During the match I became more and more confident on my shooting. It was one of the most difficult shoot-offs I ever had. I decided to shoot soon and I shoot a 10 liner. Honestly, I thought it wouldn't beenough but he shot a 9 and I advanced to the 1/8 elimination round.   Jimmy BUTTS (USA) I haven't been in the final in 13 years. It's really unbelievable! It was really a long path to get here, lots of training and work, but I’m finally here shooting for the gold medal in my home country.   Sergio PAGNI (ITA) I lost my quarterfinal against Reo WILDE, who was in great shape and shot 120 points out of a possible 120. I feel really bad about the two arrows that I shot in the 9 ring, on the exact same spot, in the last two sets. I am sure that if I had been seeded in a different rank against a different opponent, I would have advanced to the semifinals and, why not, the gold medal match.   Reo WILDE (USA) To be in the gold medal final, here in the USA, was my dream. It's awesome. I won the Indoor World Champs two times in a row in France and Denmark and now I'm back and I want to get this gold medal. The match against Jimmy will be nice, I think I will enjoy it.   Compound Women   Natalia AVDEEVA (RUS) The match against Albina LOGINOVA was a sort of revenge of the Russian National Champs (smile). At that competition we fought for the first place and she defeated me in the shoot-off arrow. This time it was my turn to claim the match.   Viktoria BALZHANOVA (RUS) I'm very nervous for tomorrow’s finals. I never imagined that I could be shooting for this medal. Yesterday the qualification round that I shot was not at the top of my performance, but today I was able to recover and gained a better position. We’ll see what happens on Thursday.   World Archery Communication
